Subject: my 6th show
It's hard to believe that I was a little less than a month away from my 15th birthday these 2 shows were an early birthday present from my aunt. I only I had attended 5 shows prior to this one & only the Philly shows beginning with January 5, 1979. The Scarlet>Fire is great but the Black Peter>NFA is HOT! HOT! HOT! The 1st set is also well played.
In fact give both of these Philly shows a listen your ears will thank you.

My first show, my first microdot, never the same changed my life. Some how I wound up upfront for Sugar Mag that was it. Nice SBD 5 stars for me thats for sure

Subject: There are better 1980s shows
Some nice guitar work by Jerry in some places, but not as exciting a show as many others in this era and others. Not Fade Away seems to come out of nowhere and abruptly end. Like the first set, vocals are uneven.
Subject: Smokin' set!!!
Damn. This is now my favorite post May 1977 Scarlet. Fire is OK...but Scarlet is cookin'....Billy and Mickey are smokin' during the transition phase.
This entire set is sick! I wish the whole show was here. Sound quality is awesome too!

Jerry does a nice Black Peter and of course the Scarlet>Fire is a smoker.
Also as mentioned real nice sound.

Subject: Set II only
Sound quality A+, but the seperation of channels is where this really shines.
End of Scarlet>fire is really hot and the CC Rider is whacked out and Bobby is deleriuous... Ramble of rose??? Spirited song selection and not sure why they do not play this stuff in second sets anymore this is superb music. Check out that point in Eyes where Jer can either wind it down arnd the 7:00 mark right before 'sometimes we live...' and he just keeps banging it out. I like the jump out of space as well.... Sugar Mag is off the charts...
Sorry I missed this show the other 1980 shows I did catch were 5's.
Subject: Sid's right
real nice sound Q...follow his advice thru the many great SBD's and the few AUD's...
There is only one reason you need this folks: Scarlet Begonias>Fire On the Mountain. The end of Fire on the Mountain reaches some unreal heights. Again I thank the Archive and wonder why I was born in 1981.

This is an excellent sounding recording. The band is mellow and relaxed, which is what I remember from being there. Brent adds plenty, in an understated way, that works! Phil can be felt throughout. Definitely worth the download. My only reason for not giving five-stars is to leave room for the most amazing shows that come up. Is the August 29th show out there?
